Why students change

Students change course or college for many reasons: the content isn't what they expected, the timetable doesn't fit around work, they have found a field they enjoy more, or another campus is simply a better fit. Changing can be the right decision – as long as you check a few things first.

Check the new course

  • Level – how the new course fits with what you have already studied (for example certificate, diploma or degree).
  • Duration – how long the new course takes, including study breaks.
  • Intakes – when you can start, and whether there would be a gap between courses.
  • Credit transfer – whether units you have already completed can count towards the new course. Ask the new college to assess this before you enrol.

Talk to your current provider

Before you sign anything new, read your written agreement with your current college and ask them about:

  • their withdrawal process and any notice you need to give;
  • their refund policy for fees you have already paid;
  • anything else in your written agreement that applies when you leave.

If you hold a student visa, check your visa conditions before changing.

Compare colleges

Use our course finder to compare courses by level, field, city and college, or browse the colleges in our directory. Each college shows its CRICOS provider code, so you can check that it is registered.
